Martha Honey

Martha Honey, Ph.D. is CREST Co-Founder and Director of the Washington, DC office. Martha has worked in dozens of countries and has written and lectured widely on ecotourism, Travelers' Philanthropy, and certification issues. Her books include Ecotourism and Sustainable Development: Who Owns Paradise? (Island Press, 2008 and 1999) and Ecotourism and Certification: Setting Standards in Practices (Island Press, 2002). She also worked for 20 years as a journalist based in Tanzania and Costa Rica, reporting for leading media outlets in the U.S., Britain and Canada. She was named one of the world's top 10 eco-and sustainable-travel "watchdogs" by CondéNast Traveler (September 2008). She holds a Ph.D. in African history from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
